A common question we get from coaches and teachers of the PLT4M community is: “Can WE follow a PLT4M program?” And the answer is YES!While “staff wellness” comes in many forms, we encourage you to tap into the resources available in PLT4M to provide a fitness-based staff wellness initiative for your faculty. This article outlines the steps you can take to launch a staff wellness challenge at your school!*Please note: in order for staff to be able to access and record workouts in PLT4M, they will need to occupy a student license. Hi fellow P.E. teachers! After incorporating PLT4M into my classes for the last 3 years, I’ve fine tuned the way I introduce PLT4M to my students. It can be challenging to learn a new online tool yourself, while simultaneously teaching your students how to use it! Below I’m sharing my latest approach for introducing PLT4M into my classes: Introductions and expectations The first day of school can be exciting and nerve wracking, and it is my job to make sure that the students feel comfortable right off the bat. I start by introducing myself, including: My background (something personal about me) Why I’m here Why I teach Next, I’m going to explain the goal of the class. I teach 3 different courses: Strength & Conditioning, Foundations of Weight Training, and Women’s Fitness. Each course has different goals and objectives, so I like to make it very clear what they signed up for, so that they understand what that class is all about, and what they can expect to gain from it.
Providing Structure AND Choice in PE My PE classes consist of students in grades 9-12, of all different backgrounds. In classes with up to 60 students, I could encounter the following: Students ranging from grades 9-12 Non-athletes Athletes who already worked out that morning Athletes who haven't worked out Experienced lifters Students who've never entered a weight room I knew I had to appeal to a wide variety of students in order to get them to buy into my PE class, but I still wanted to provide some structure so they knew what to expect in my class that day. I landed on the following schedule: Monday - Mobility DayChoices: Stretching/Flexibility OR Yoga Tues/Thursday - Strength & Conditioning Choices: Bodyweight Fitness OR Weight Lifting Wednesday - Cardio Day Choices: Cardio Machines or PLT4M's Dance Fitness Friday - Game Day When students show up for class each day, they have two options. Groups allow you to organize your students and athletes in a number of different ways—and you’re not limited to choosing one! Worksets are a tool found in our weight training programs, used to assess athletes maxes and automatically adjust them up or down in increments of 5 LBs, based on their performance. Before we used PLT4M, our student athletes were recording their BFS workouts on paper. Each teacher had their own way of teaching movements, and workout plans became very siloed. Our goal was to create one unified Strength Training program for the student-athletes to buy into. Now that we're entering our 3rd school year with PLT4M, it has helped us in more ways than one. Below are 6 insights I wish someone shared with me on day one: 1) Student Buy-In Took 6 monthsAt first, our students were not thrilled with the idea of getting their workouts off their devices. After about 6 months of students logging their weights, they started to see results in the numbers, and it was accessible to them. Rather than coaches housing their data, the data is transparent for both the coach and the athlete to see. Once they saw their progress in PLT4M, they were bought into the program. 2) Use Rack View to pair Varsity & JV athletesYes, this feature limits the number of devices needed in the weight

Hello fellow P.E. teachers! Figuring out the logistics of running a tech-powered PE class can be challenging. Phones can be a huge distraction, so I was hesitant to ask my students to use their phones in my classes. Over the years, I've landed on some key tips which I incorporate into all of my classes. These tips help eliminate distractions in my classroom, and motivate students to work hard in my class. Tip 1: Promote Social InteractionWhen students enter my classroom, I ask them to place all their devices on the device cart for the first 5 minutes of class. This promotes 5 minutes of socialization. A chance to talk to their peers, a chance to talk to me, ask me questions, etc. Tip 2: Introduction & Warm UpThis lets the students know what our focus is for that class, as well as warm them up appropriately. This sets the tone for the class. Tip 3: Device Setup & Rack ViewAt this point, students can grab their devices and begin their workouts. I place car mounts around the we

As the Director of Customer Success at PLT4M, I’m interested in learning more about what kind of education our customers are looking for. While I may have my own ideas, I figured I’d bring a poll to the community and ask our users directly. I’d like to understand what topics you’d like more education on in order to get more value out of PLT4M. Based on your feedback, I will create more educational content in the form of webinars, articles, and tutorials.
